Painting

Process

Lucid. Acrylic and Bark on Canvas.

This painting tackles the challenge of adding a three dimensional element to the flat plane of the canvas.

Here, a piece of palm tree bark has been married to the canvas. Textures and colors from the barkwere incorporated into the painting to create a more unified piece. The top of this painting plays with the textures and colors found on the top, smooth surface of thebark while the lower section of the canvas represents the more fibrous underside of the bark.

A few examples of my thumbnailing process for this piece. I was set on attaching the bark at its side, creating a shelf on the canvas.

Experimentation with media and technique was also a large aspect of the final piece.

Left: Pumice mixed with thinned acrylic

Right: Tape masks and dripping

Lucid, was an excellent platform for technique exploration, color theory development and problem solving.
